Memorial Day weekend was spent in Moab with Jen, Jason and their kids Azzie, Iddie and Cooper. No I didn't misspell their names, (Addie, Izzie), I just couldn't keep track of them all and that's how they kept coming out. Mom and River also came with us to help out. Nick worked with Jen in her Snowie shack at the art festival for the weekend while the rest of us tended kids. As a bonus to us for helping out, Jason gave us a good deal on a Cataract Canyon river trip. This would be my fifth trip down Cat., Nick's second and Cindy's first. Nick and I couldn't wait, Cindy was sick to her stomach and not to sure about going. The water would be at peak flows, 51000cfs, and a man had drowned on the river the week before. Cindy was very nervous, but after all was said and done, we all had a great trip and would love to do it again. I even think Cindy wants to sell our power boat and get a river raft. OK, maybe it wasn't that fun for her but she was all smiles going through the rapids. Sorry there aren't any pics of the rapids while we were going through them, can't let go to take a pic, but you can look up videos on youtube to get an idea of how wild a ride it is. Our trip ended at Hite Marina on Lake Powell and from there we flew back in a four person Cessna that I think was as old as I am. It was a great flight with a breathtaking view of the river and Canyonlands National Park. Thanks Jen and Jason for a great weekend.
Starting out the day with our new friends Bob and Davida from New Jersey, Spencer, our swamper in training and our guide Eric in the back.
Having been down the river so many times, Eric lets me drive the boat so he can talk to the others and explain the river and its history.
A family picture with Eric butting in.
The sister boat to ours with guide Cory in the back and his dad Jan showing off, or acting normal, I'm not sure which.
Cindy and Spencer at the sign that warns us of the rapids and possibility of dieing. See how excited she was.
